We’re proud to spotlight Samantha Avila, a Class of 2018 alumnus who’s making waves in the world of television! After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in Public Relations and a concentration in Journalism (plus a Spanish minor—¡impresionante!), she’s now living her dream job as an Executive Assistant at the TODAY Show in New York City.

Since starting her role in February, no two days have been the same—which is exactly what
Samantha loves most. Her mornings begin bright and early at 7 a.m. with emails and planning alongside the show's Executive Producer. From there, she heads to the iconic Studio 1A to support staff and guests, always surrounded by the energy, excitement, and laughter of a live show. After the broadcast wraps, Samantha assists with post-tapes and returns to 30 Rock to prep for the next day. Whether she’s pulling segment elements or heading to a shoot somewhere in the city, she says, “My job is always moving!”

Her journey began at NBC News in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a Desk Assistant
right out of college. “I spent many early mornings and late nights there and learned all about
the world of network news and television,” she recalls. After a year and a half, Samantha made the leap to New York to become a Production Assistant at Rockefeller Center, contributing to major breaking news coverage and the 2024 election.

Looking back, she credits her time at JPII with helping shape her path. “JPII influenced me in
many ways and helped set me up for the future early on. Having teachers who truly cared
about my success in and out of the classroom encouraged me to keep reaching for my goals,” she shares. Her involvement in extracurriculars helped her discover her love of
collaboration—something that’s still at the heart of her career today.

Samantha’s advice to current students? “Go for it. You never know if you don’t try, and it’s
good to dream big!” She finds strength in her senior quote from Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know
the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

When Samantha’s not working, she’s making the most of life in NYC—whether it's catching a
Broadway show, trying new restaurants, running in Central Park, or enjoying a picnic with
friends. Her personal motto: “What’s for you, won’t pass you.” She believes that hard work,
kindness, and authenticity will always lead you where you're meant to go. The JPII community wishes Samantha continued success!
