A Planned Giving Program of St. John Paul II Catholic High School
Planned giving is more than a donation; it’s an investment in the enduring success of St. John Paul II Catholic High School (JPII). It involves arranging a gift today to be allocated to JPII at a future date. Those who want to make a strong statement about their commitment to the mission of JPII are invited to join our Legacy Society. Members of the Legacy Society document their intention to provide a planned gift to the school. They share a strong common bond of generosity that will nourish and sustain the mission of JPII in an enduring way. We welcome the opportunity to work with donors in planning a gift to the school.
Everybody has a unique and personal reason for giving, reflecting their individual charitable desires. Depending on the type of gift you choose, planned giving can provide you with the following benefits:
Planned giving allows you to leave a lasting legacy, making a significant impact on the future generations of students, faculty and the entire JPII community.
You may receive tax benefits by making planned gifts, including deductions or exemptions from estate taxes, income taxes or capital gains taxes, depending on the nature of the gift and applicable laws.*
Donors who make planned gifts set a remarkable precedent, demonstrating their generosity and dedication to our school’s mission. Your actions inspire others to follow suit, shaping a culture of giving that enriches our community.
There are many planned giving options, including:
WILLS and TRUSTS In addition to being the most common way to distribute an estate, a will or trust can also be a way to make a thoughtful gift to JPII. After first providing for the needs of loved ones, you may choose one of several ways to benefit JPII. By having your attorney revise your will or add a simple amendment, you can provide a gift of a dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or what is left after remembering your loved ones.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS An easy and often overlooked way to support JPII is to name St. John Paul II Catholic High School as a beneficiary of a bank account, life insurance policy, IRA, 401(k), or other retirement-related accounts. Simply changing your beneficiary will complete this type of gift.
ENDOWMENTS Endowments provide permanent, self-sustaining sources of funding for JPII. You can create an endowment in your name or in the name of someone of your choosing. Endowments are created with a minimum investment of $50,000, either as an outright gift or through a bequest from your estate.
APPRECIATED PROPERTY and TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY JPII may accept gifts of houses, residential or commercial rental property, office buildings, undeveloped land, jewelry, works of art, and automobiles if in alignment with the school’s Gift Acceptance Policy. All gifts of real estate require JPII Board of Trustees review and approval. The donor is responsible for setting an appraised value on the gift. Any gift over $5,000 must be independently appraised.

"It is a blessing to be able to establish an Educational Endowment at JPII. Both Frank and I strongly believe in Catholic education. Products of Catholic schools ourselves, we remember well the difference. Catholic schools are a place where God is, where students merge academic learning with their relationship with God. It is a place where forever friends are formed, friends that believe as you do – God is the basis of our lives and our future. When we moved here, there was no Catholic high school for our children. In addition to that, our junior-high daughter was unable to get into a Catholic school due to lack of space. She ultimately became a Catholic school teacher saying that she hoped never again would someone be told that they couldn’t go to a Catholic school. We had no choice but to get involved with the founding of JPII and we want what she wants, that nobody who wants to go to a Catholic school is unable to attend. Catholic education is in our hearts; it is our passion. It is the basis of Catholic relationships, strong Catholic leaders in our community, and the formation of morals among its students that we pray will become part of our society."
“Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others…” - St. John Paul II

"John Henry Cardinal Newman wrote “The Idea of a University” in 1852. In simplistic terms his thesis was that a university should teach how to think – not what to think.
It seems to me that our universities have lost sight of this obvious truth – unfortunately even the Jesuit university that I attended. This causes me great distress, and I have worried about what might be done about it. I reluctantly decided that I was powerless to influence any changes on that front. So, I have taken a different approach. I have created endowed scholarships at three Catholic high schools, including St. John Paul II Catholic High School in Huntsville, AL. My hope is that if the students have a strong moral compass before entering university, they might be able to emerge unscathed. Time will tell if I am right."
